Marcelinho is a recurring character in Monica's Gang. He was created in 2015 by Mauricio de Sousa, having been based on his youngest son Marcelo Pereira de Sousa. Marcelinho was the last character based on a son of Mauricio de Sousa.
Marcelinho had his debut in 2015, but unlike the other characters who had their debuts since the 90s, Marcelinho did not debut in a comic book with a story focused on him. His debut was in the comic strips that were later made available on the internet on Monica's Gang's social networks.
Personality[]
Marcelinho is a politically correct, serious and intelligent boy. He cares about wanting to educate his friends about wasting water, electricity and also how to finance money. His stories usually revolve around wanting to stop wasted water, wasted electricity and the pollution to make the world better and healthier.
Appearance[]
Marcelinho has a head shape very different from the other child characters, having a more realistic shape, with a small ear, triangular nose and thick eyebrows. He has a little dark skin and short black hair with a five-pointed quiff. He wears a black t-shirt, blue shorts and red sneakers. In the first appearances and artworks Marcelinho used to have black dot eyes, but in the current comics he is seen being drawn with doll-like eyes similar to the characters' mothers.
Trivia[]
- Marcelinho is the character that had the most negative reception among the Monica's Gang characters. The character had received hatred because he tries to be educational and politically correct, besides finding his stories unfunny.
- Mauricio de Sousa says it took several years to create Marcelinho, because his real son Marcelo considered it could make him the butt of jokes at school if he had a character based on him so early. Marcelinho debuted when Marcelo turned 16.
- Originally his name would be Marcelinho, o Certinho (lit. Marcelinho the Little Right Kid). However Marcelo did not liked the "o Certinho" in the name and asked his father to leave only Marcelinho. As such, his surname remains unknown to this day.
