Marina is one of the characters of Monica's Gang who was based on a real person, Mauricio de Sousa's daughter Marina Takeda e Sousa. In the comics, Mauricio himself and his wife Alice are her parents. Her first appearance was on Monica #97 (Globo)'s opening comic, back in 1995, and she is good friends with everyone is the gang. Franklin is shown to have a crush on her, but it's unknown whether she truly likes him back or not (in some comics she does, but in others, just as friends).
Personality[]
Marina is a kind girl, only getting angry when she has an art block or when her drawings don't come out as expected. Influenced by her father, Marina developed a taste for drawing and painting. She's very talented and her friends are always requesting her to draw something for them.
She was originally part of the real world but was delighted with the comics made by her father, and since she has a magic pencil that turns drawings to life, she can enter the world of comics whenever she wants. Marina slowly started to become a character just like the others, so it's pretty rare to find a newer comic where she is referred to as a real life girl (despite her parents still being Mauricio and his wife, Alice).
In Monica Adventures, Marina remains the same delicate girl, beautiful and talented as ever. She still has a taste for drawing, but started to do digital paintings.
Appearance[]
Marina wears a yellow shirt depicting a blue alien called Alfredinho (a character that the real life Marina created when she was a kid), pink shorts, and matching sneakers. She has pretty long brown hair, which is constantly envied and praised by the other characters (especially Monica, since she is not very pleased with her "banana hair", as Jimmy Five and Smudge like to call it).

- In most comics, Marina is afraid of dogs, which she has tried to overcome several times.
- Since her debut, Marina has received a mixed reception from the fandom. Many have her as one of their favorite characters mainly because of her sweet and gentle personality in addition to her artistic gifts that a lot of artists identify with. However, many fans (especially the older ones) don't like the character because she's way too much of a goody two-shoes. Some fans also consider Marina to be one of the characters responsible for the decline in the franchise's quality, since she was introduced at the same time that the comics began to be more politically correct.
