O Plano Sangrento (lit. The Bloody Plan) is the title of a story originally published in Mônica #89 (Globo series) in 1994. This story is considered classic among Monica's Gang comics and was later adapted into a cartoon episode named The Reddish Plan in 1998 and a book. Here, Jimmy Five makes a plan so he would appear injured and Monica gets scared out of her wits when she sees his fake blood.
The story was written by Rosana Munhoz.
Plot[]
The story begins with Monica in her house watching a violent horror movie and she is horrified by the blood.
Jimmy Five meets Mônica in this same situation and accompanies her out of the house, claiming that she is being ironic about not liking violence. Smudge appears and provokes, Monica throws Samson in Smudge, knocking him out. When Monica approaches Smudge, Smudge turns showing "blood" coming out of his chest. Monica gets scared and Jimmy Five accuses her of being a murderer, but Monica tries to defend herself saying that the coelhada did not do this and gives a coelhada in Jimmy Five. Jimmy Five "bleeds" and before "dying" asks Monica to make a promise for her not to attack any other boy who provokes her. Monica runs away to wash the "blood" from her hands until she meets Maggy to whom she tells what happened.
Meanwhile Jimmy Five and Smudge get up and reveal that everything was a plan against Monica using ketchup as fake blood. When the two try to leave Monica appears together with Maggy making Jimmy Five and Smudge come back to pretend that they are dead. Maggy smells the ketchup and feels like eating hamburgers. Blu appears and licks the ketchup from Smudge's chest causing Monica to get angry believing that he licked blood. After that Maggy considers that the two are really dead and says that they need to be buried, Jimmy Five and Smudge get scared by what Maggy said and decide to wake up showing that they are no longer "dead". At the same moment Ms. Lurdinha appears and ruins the plan, getting angry that Smudge used his ketchup bottle to get his clothes dirty. Jimmy Five gets mad that Smudge's mother ruined the plan just like him, and Mônica knocks them both out with coelhadas.
In the end Ms. Lurdinha reappears and invites the two boys to eat. The boys are surprised by hamburgers full of ketchup and run away through the window in disgust.
Characters[]
Animated episode[]
In 1998 the story was adapted into a episode in the direct-to-video animated film Videogibi Turma da Mônica - O Plano Sangrento (lit: Videocomic Monica's Gang - The Bloody Plan), that was part of the Videogibi series. This episode, like many others this season, uses a animation style that mixes traditional animation for the characters and CGI for the background. The episode also had some changes from the comics, for example:
- In the comic when Mônica is watching the horror movie, sounds of gunshots are heard. These sounds do not occur in the animated version.
- Walls, streets and fences appear in the neighborhood, being that in the comic (as in most stories) there are no walls, streets and fences around the houses.
- When Smudge meets Monica, he is inside a trash can.
- During the scene in which Monica believes she killed Smudge, Monica remains frightened all the time in front of Jimmy Five. In the comic Monica is serious when trying to defend herself against Jimmy Five after being accused of murder.
- In the scene in which Monica appears washing the "blood" of her hands on a faucet, Monica is surprised by Maggy and pull the faucet off the floor. In the comic it doesn't happen, Maggy meets Monica without surprising her and eating a popsicle.
- When Jimmy Five and Smudge get up before Monica returns with Maggy, Smudge mentions his mother when talking about ketchup.
- Blu appears coming out from a bush at first making Monica think he is a guard.
- After Maggy says that Jimmy Five and Smudge need to be buried there is a extra scene where Maggy looks at Blu digging two holes on the other side of the fence to get a bone, making the boys imagine in an evil gravedigger.
- When Jimmy Five and Smudge wake up from the false death Smudge accidentally slaps Jimmy Five in the face.
- The colors of Ms. Lurdinha's clothes are different. The design of her eyes has also been changed.
- When the boys try to escape at the moment when Ms. Lurdinha ruins the plan Maggy holds them back. In the comic Monica is the one who holds them.
- Before Ms. Lurdinha appeared with the hamburgers, Jimmy Five and Smudge appear drinking milk. In the comic there are glasses of lemon juice on the table, but they don't drink.
- In the comic at the end of the moment when the boys run away in disgust, Ms. Lurdinha has a dialogue questioning whether the hamburger meat looked bloody. In the animated version the episode ends with Ms. Lurdinha turning her face to the viewer.
Book[]
In April 23, 2000 a book containing images of the animated version of the story was released. The book also had the plot a bit modified to adapt to the preschool audience. In 2014 the book was relaunched.
Trivia[]
- Samson is not referred to by name at any point in story, probably a reference to older stories in which it there was still no name.
